[Paddlewise] Re-coating Nylon?

I've got a couple sprayskirts of the neoprene deck/coated nylon tunnel variety
which have lost waterproofness on the tunnel. The loss of coating seems to be
worst where they were flexed (or abraded) the most. So, I bought a can of
Recoat (a Kenyon product, I think), which is a water-based emulsion of the
polyurethane stuff which composed the original waterproof coating. It is
recommended for renewing the waterproof coating on nylon.

Per the instructions, I washed the nylon in warm soapy water, rinsed
thoroughly, allowed it to dry, and then brushed the Recoat on. After the
requisite several days, used the sprayskirts on an overnight tour. Disaster!
The re-coating is coming off in strips, particularly where it contacted
itself.

What gives? Does anybody have a technique/material which will lay down a
durable waterproof coating on nylon?

I am loath to abandon these sprayskirts. Other than the loss of
waterproofness on the tunnel, they are in very good shape.

P.S. These are from Snapdragon, a reputable and popular brand out here.
