I own a Feathercraft K1C and am curious as to how well the shock cords hold
up over time. How about the boats performace at it's payload capacity with
the weight distributed correctly? So far I've only paddled it empty with the
floatation bags in place and it feels like it would be more stable with some
weight in it.

The shock cord is super heavy duty. Over the years, Feathercraft has
experimented with various ways of mounting the shock cord inside the
tubes, changing things like length, diameter, etc. I would think that
with all the experimentation they would like have a setup that should
last quite a long time. It pays to soak the frame parts in a bathtub at
the end of the season to let saltwater and grit clear away from the
shock cord.

It would to the degree that you would then sink the boat further into
the water and the flared sides of the boat rest on the surface giving
you a slightly wider beam.

My husband has replaced the shock cord with 1 inch webbing and Fastex
buckles on our Feathercraft K-2. He's also rigged up water bottle holders
made of webbing that clip into the deck webbing. One for the front, one for
the back. The webbing can cinch very tight, yet you can release it quickly.

I think there may be some confusion here. The inquiry was about the
shockcorded frame tubes, i.e. the shockcords in the tubes a la how they
are in tent poles. You have a lot less of them in the K-2, if I recall
correctly whereas other Feathercrafts such as the K-Light just about
every tube shockcorded.
