Thanks Duane for defending us Tupperware paddlers. We forgive you for your
recent purchase.

I just returned from a weekend in Toronto. I have gained a new level of
respect for those who live above the 49th parallel! I can only compare my
experience of walking out of a pub in downtown Toronto at 2am with the scene
from 2001 when HAL ejects one of the crew into the cold void of space. It
was beyond weather! It was another planet, radically different from the one
my home in Delray Beach, Florida exists on. I was told it was -38 (at that
temperature C and F are about the same: brutal) and the only comments passed
by the locals were: "A bit cool eh?"

I will never complain about hurricanes or mosquitoes again!

It was real cold this morning and getting colder. My wife said that it may
drop into the twenties this evening. As a "Floridian" for twenty-five of my

forty-three years, I suffer cerebral flatulence when the red on the
thermometer turns blue. We had hoped that my recent eyeserectumy would
help.
 We are still optimistic.

-38, why that's fine paddling weather! Two of us headed out earlier
this week in balmy 10F weather. The Mississippi was valiantly trying
to maintain liquid form while everything above the waterline turned
quickly to glass. Biggest concern is keeping your skirt from freezing
to your boat.

We did rescue a dog that had jumped on in to Old Man River and
couldn't get back out due to the ice shelf (props to Bill for that
fancy seal rescue landing).

Besides, if you can't ski and kayak in the same day, are you really living?

43.5 actually.

Some of our pubs are like that!

They lied to you. It wasn't below -27C this winter.

Come back in the summer. We don't worry about hurricanes or mosquitoes
either. We worry about tornadoes and mosquitoes. The mosquitoes use
chainsaws and carry off the weak and slow.

Heh, Toronto is *below* the 49th parallel -- more southerly than the Twin
Cities, where we have been having a rather warm winter. This morning it was
a mere -8 degrees F., and we have not yet had a high below zero this winter
-- not like the good old days! Up along the Canadian border, though, I heard
it was about -35 degrees this morning. That's good skiing weather -- just
put a little Polar wax on your skis, and you're set for the day. In fact,
Linda and I are planning to head up that way for a mini-vacation in a few
weeks.

Nope!
That's why I really love March and April in Montana!
I can paddle Friday night, ski all day Saturday, and do some more good
paddling on Sunday--it's the weekend warrior's dream come true!

Shawn
Who isn't really living, since it's been just cold enough to freeze the
reservoirs, but not enough snow for good skiing.

That certainly shows my ignorance although anything North of Jacksonville is
the "frozen North"!
