Hi everyone,

I feel all these list members who are only too ready to poke fun at the
Nordkapp design should show a little respect... If in their opinion they
don't like the boat - then fair enough, an equal number of people could
probably be found to sing its praises - so what! But stop to consider a
little where would sea kayaking be today if it were not for these early
designs that promoted the sport well over 20-30 years ago? Todays modern
hull shapes all build on the success of past designs. Indeed - one poster
seemed to be criticising the fact that the Nordkapp design itself has
evolved over time... the logic of this escapes me. Should we not have
realised by now that the 'universal' sea kayak that is perfect for all
paddlers in all situations and journeys does not exist! My main beef is:
why be so negative about something you personally don't want to paddle?
Isn't it supposed to be about enjoying yourself on the water?

Keith

Logic? Do we *always* need logic? 8)

You have some good point about the evolution of hull design and while
I know bupkiss about the Nordkapp I have lurked on this list for some
time. That said, I liked to point out that most flames on this list
give only first degree burns. IOW: its usually done in jest or to get
people mildly riled up. Its a little like harrassing a friend of
yours for their choice of car or coffee or [insert anything personal
preference here].

I think people were enjoying themselves off the water 8)

But can't we have just a little fun - without having to take everything
(and

ourselves) so seriously?

Yes Keith, there is no "perfect for everything" boat - that's why our
little

fleets just have to keep growing - at least to some extent. And yes
again, it

is about enjoying ourselves on the water - it's also about an exchange of

experiences, information, and opinions. No harm in that really. Some
people will love a boat that another hates, but that shouldn't take
anything away from the enjoyment each has in this wonderful activity and
their chosen boat, and it also shouldn't prevent us from saying what we
think about a certain boat - no matter it's brilliant and storied history
(real or perceived).

Just because I have respect for the accomplishments of a certain dinosaur
(oops), doesn't mean I can't express an opinion or two about it's stinky
breath, or even have a little fun at it's expense. Same goes for a
Nordkapp. I respect myself, but I also try to be as objective as
possible when looking at my faults. I also enjoy making fun of myself,
and I even enjoy it when others (especially my friends) have a go at me
from time to time. No harm done.

And so I say: Nordkapp beware - I shall continue to flame you, no matter
how famous and pretty you are! ;-)
