I have a wooden paddle I'm replacing the carbon-fiber/glass ferrules on.
The original ferrules came off because either the joint was glue-starved
or the adhesive used was too brittle.

I was considering what adhesive to use- maybe polyurethane, like Gorilla
Glue?- when I spied a tube of 3M 5200 in the shop. Good bulk filling
properties, flexible and tough as all get out. Seems like a good choice.
Anyone have experience with 5200 in this use?

Probably not as good as the two-part adhesive 3M makes as "Scotch Weld" # 3532
B/A. It has a reliable overnight cure time, unlike 5200, and is bomber
strong. Available from NRS mail order. Too expensive for massive glue jobs,
but probably the right stuff for a failed ferrule.

Thanks to Dan Hagen for putting me onto this stuff.

Nope, Mike, not in this use, but we (speed-) built some plywood boats with
Sika-flex at the Wooden Boat Show in Mystic CT a few years ago ... for lack
of SF the prototype was built ahead of time with the 3M goop and those
results would recommend it at least for trials with ferrules!
