I have been doing a local table here, a combination from several sources, plus a table including the effects of wind. I am going to publish the material in our club?s magazine next week, and in the national Paddler magazine (Finland) next fall. The problem with the tables is, I think, that we do NOT know the eccects of all variants: body fat, mental and physical health, clothes, wind etc. beforehand. Shawn, I think a table will always include some marginal because of these variables. Two kayakers in a double capsized few months ago at Baltic Sea close to the Aland Islands. The older guy, father, stayed concious in water for a full hour before they were rescued. Against all odds: water was + 1,5 Centigrades, wind 8 m/sec, waves up to 6 ft. The wind makes the temps at the skin get low down to -10 to -13 degrees Centigrades, quite a lot below the freezing point... Unbelievable. He did not have a dry-suit, but neoprene shorts and a paddling jacket plus loose rainproof trousers. Some woollen and thermel underwear. Neoprene gloves were unuseful after few minutes because of the wind, I guess. Stay safe, you guys! For that reason, being conservative and stating worst-case numbers is justified.
