My 26 year old daughter and I are planning on going sea kayaking around Vancouver Island the first week in September. I have experience paddling, but my daughter does not. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for my daughter (and for me too!) and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where we could go? I was thinking the Gulf Islands, but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions? Also, if you do have suggestions, is there anywhere close to that area where we could rent a kayak for her? Val, Nine years ago my wife and I stayed on Galliano Island for a few days at a B&B called the Eagle's Nest. Nice folks. While there we went on a paddling tour with the local outfitter (I think the name was Gulf Island Kayaks but I'm not sure). We had a great paddle lasting about 6 hours. The trip included first-timers and quality fiberglass boats. Cost was reasonable, too. If you need more info, contact me and I'll dig through my records. I recommend the Mayne Island Kayak Resort (http://www.maynekayak.com/). They have rentals right on site, and some instruction is available I think. They have a great hot tub too for the guests.
