"Fishiness" I can deal with. Questions, though, remain.

Gutless cooking is OK?

Skewered fish will remain on a stick?

I've done that with trout in the California Sierras, just skewer them
lengthwise on a stick. I leave the heads on, I don't gut or clean them, I
remove the unwanted parts after they are cooked. I have also done that with
grunion on the So. Calif. beaches.

I'm not sure about other marine fish, they may taste too fishy.

Yeah, trout are fragile, if you gut them it's hard to get them to stay on the
stick and turn. I shove a stick through the mouth and out the aft end. I
leave the skin alone to protect the meat while cooking. Just like doing hot
dogs (that's sausages for you non-gringos) on a stick.

Aha! (and Duh!) I always wondered how to do that. I'm in charge of a
salmon bake at the W. Coast Wooden Kayak Builders Rendezvous in August,
and was planning to use a grill....I've seen photos of that technique,
but I always wondered how to keep the sticks together. Thank you,
thank you, thank you!!!!

I asked him if the copper wire was a traditional technique (partly in
jest, of course - they had copper, but not likely in wire form). He
wasn't sure, but suggested fine spruce (?) roots, sinew or leather
strands that they kept damp.

Good luck - if it turns out like John's salmon at our rendezvous, you'll
be praised to heaven!
