I keep my Garmin GPS 12XL in a clear, waterproof pouch under a pair of bungie cords on my foredeck, where I can see and operate it. The pouch adds flotation. Also, the cord on the pouch is stronger than that on the GPS unit itself. For extra security, I loop the pouch cord around the nearest bungie cord. Chuck, Can you let us know where you found a clear plastic, waterproof GPS bag with a cord? I've been using my Magellan Meridian sans protection on the foredeck under the bungie. It's never been submersed (although it's said to float and be waterproof), but of course gets deck wash all the time. I just rinse it off and dry it after an outing. It has a plastic hook that clips to one of the D-rings on my Klepper's spraydeck. I also have a smaller bag made by Aquapac that I use for my cellphone, but which also should work for an eTrex sized GPS. regards, Kees *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Hello all, I also keep my Garmin 48 in a clear plastic dry bag under the deck bungies. When I am actually using the GPS I tend to lay it on my spray skirt. Because I do this, I think I am going to glue two strips on neoprene onto the spray skirt to hold the GPS. I imagine leaving the GPS on the deck until I am actively using it, then clipping it to my pfd and sliding it under the neoprene on the skirt. I have a friend who has a large plastic map case and keeps his GPS in the case with the charts. It's worked fine for him for the past five or so years. -Patrick *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
