Since there's a thread about waterproof cameras, maybe this won't be too far OT: My ancient and honorable compact tripod finally died a year or so ago and I've been looking for a replacement - and looking and looking. I have a tabletop, which is okay for some limited uses. I can't carry any significant extra weight or bulk when I hike, and of course when kayaking it's also helpful to have everything reasonably compact. What I'm looking for is something like what I had - a tripod which will extend to somewhere near 40 inches and weigh in at a pound or less, collapse down to about a foot or so in length. I realize that with those criteria I can't expect the rock-stable sort of tripod which one would use in a studio (or if you had somebody else to carry it around for you). My frequency of use is such that it wouldn't be appropriate to spring for one of the carbon fiber models - and anyway, they come in at about 4 lbs or more. Any suggestions on makes, models, sources of a lightweight compact tripod?
