[Paddlewise] Question regarding Yukon river paddling

Some of us are looking into an unguided 10 day kayak trip on the Yukon
river, paddling in seakayaks, from Whitehorse to Dawson (I could have those
reversed--but we'll be launching from whichever one is up-stream!) starting
in early-to-mid July. Can anyone on the list done who has done this trip
share any suggestions regarding transportation (so far, we're looking at
$200 each to shuttle the 400 mile return trip back to the starting point),
kayak rental places (since we will be flying in), what the conditions are
like, hazards [whether in the water or from bears/cougars/wolves (or
mosquitoes!) etc.], required portages, camps, and perhaps additional
sources of information? Are we crazy to do this unguided (given that none
of us has been there before--we are reasonable proficient paddlers)??? Any
information will be much appreciated!
