It is slick. You can tell the designers had some whitewater
experience, and drew liberally from the available outfitting from
Wilderness Systems' sister company, WaveSport.

I just got to paddle a prototype of the new Necky Chatham 16 on
Friday--it has super cool outfitting, too.

Things are looking great in the world of commercial sea kayaks.

Unfortunately the outfitting is not available except with new boats.

Wilderness Systems has a few animated pictures and a writeup online

Yes Kirk, it is unfortunate they don't offer them after market. We were
lucky enough to buy new Cape Horn's last month, and they have the Phase 3
seats. They are nice. Nice to be able to materially change the contact
points with the boat. Two hours without getting out has been our max so
far, but I didn't feel cramped or sore at that point.

One thing to consider - the seat back makes re-entry from the water a little
tougher as it flops down where you want to sit. Perhaps a bungie would allow
it to pop back up as you rotate your butt into the seat. Layback rolls are a
bit harder too. But perhaps it's a good trade-off for the comfort it brings.
Gotta work on some other rolls I guess. If only I could lower the seat back
without popping the spray skirt.

Maybe when I build my stripper I'll rig it so the same seat can be used.

One thing to point out, since the discussion started with the Tempest, is
that the seat systems in the Tempest and Cape Horn aren't quite the same.
The share the adjustable seat bottom, but that's it. The Tempest includes
easily adjusted Thigh hooks, great hip pads, and doesn't have the same seat
back as the Cape Horn. Instead of the adjustable height backrest, there is
a whitewater style backbend. This eliminates some of the concerns about
re-entries and rolls.

the Cape Horn outfitting is nice, and I enjoy the boat allot, but I think
the Tempest outfitting is a clear step forward. It'll be interesting to see
if, like the revolutions in outfitting in whitewater boats, the other
manufactures follow suit.

Minicell could be hard to find in ten years!

Alas, my local shop only had thick gel monster seats on my last visit.

I wanted a simple piece of foam at most 1/4 inch thick. Thats what I
want as my seat ;-)

Backpacking has the "Go Lite" philosphy. I'm with them...
