A Tyvek cover might be good for protecting a kayak while traveling with it on the roof of your vehicle (though the ad does not recommend it), I wouldn't be too keen on using it for storage. The idea of using a material that lets rain in and then feel good about the fact that it breathes to let the rain back out just seems dumb (My roof leaks but so does my floor so the rain doesn't stick around!). I've used Tyvek for a bunch of stuff (got a big roll at a garage sale for $4) and it isn't particularly durable. I know there are different grades of Tyvek, but poly tarps are cheaper and more durable than Tyvek for this purpose. For long term storage, I'd rather use a waterproof material that is held off the kayak to allow full air circulation.
