Even here in SoCal, wood boats sell for dirt cheap. I've got an Arctic Tern kit in my garage that I bought for $150, but I think why build it when I can probably find one all built for $6-8 hundred. Had I more discretionary income, I'd be taking in more boats from craigslist to play with and send on to better homes. So many different boats out there and how are you ever going to try them all! Currently I have 7 boats in my garage--only non-kayakers are impressed!
