I am in search of floating rope but not the common 3 ply polypro kind (that
stuff is too rough and stiff). I have called West Marine, E&B Marine, Boats
U.S., and a bunch of others and noone even has the ability to order any.
Suggestions?

How about just putting flotation on the rope, whatever it is you want?

Debbie,

I don't know how long a line you need nor its intended function, but you
might try the line in a throwbag - the kind commonly carried by whitewater
paddlers. They come in a variety of diameters and lengths - up to about
75ft. The rope in my throw bag is 3/8" Spectra and 75ft long. Very strong
and it floats.

there's a kayak shop in Vancouver, BC--Ecomarine- that has a private label
floating rope. I am not sure of dimensions but it's likely 3/8 in and 50 ft.
It's a supple rope and relatively inexpensive if I remember correctly.

that have a website and can be reached by email. see www.ecomarine.com

Hi Debbie et al!
Best bet, try a hardware store. I recently purchased some nice 3/8" braided
blue and white poly at a Home Depot store to replace the aging line in my
throwbag. Cost was about $9 for 50' A nearby Brookharts lumber (Ace
Hardware) store has several different colors and thicknesses available on
"cut-to-length" spools. You will usually find a pretty good selection at a
larger motorboat store, but it will probably be considerably more
expensive. A final option is one of the discount boating supply stores such
as Overtons; seems like they had a couple of pages of various types of poly
line in their latest catalog.
Hope this helps!
ByeBye! S
PS: All poly ropes are not created equal. Try before you buy to be sure
that the line you are considering actually does float (make 'em get out a
bucket!), unless the packaging specifically so states.

This is a very common commodity for open boaters. Both Nantahala
Outdoor Center and Northwest River Supply have this in their catalogs. It
will range from 64 to 75 cents per foot. I usually use 3/8 to 1/2 inch
diameter. Less than that could cut into your hands under tension, and a
thicker rope is easier to grasp in cold conditions.
Both mail order dealers have other sizes in stock for various purposes.
NOC is at http://www.nocweb.com/
NRS is at http://www.nrsweb.com/
