Well I should have read the sermons before piping up in church but amid
all this fervor I did have a question about rudders, that well, may have
been drowned out by the burbling of cavitation and the singing of the
choir. I asked before and now do humbly do so again, about, well...

Problem: how to sail a Feathercraft K1 with a small Balogh
     Batwing
sail. The Klepper standard rudder on my Aerius I worked well
     with the
same sail. Now I'm trying to make the K1 into a practical
     sailor. The
standard Feathercraft K1 rudder is much smaller and less
     powerful than
the Klepper Aerius I setup. What would be the consequences of
     (gasp) using the larger
blade from the Feathercraft K2 rudder on the K1, perhaps
     shortened to
approximately the same length as the K1 item?

Have mercy on my aquatic soul and give me some ideas. Thanks.

Richard, drop a line to the master himself, Mark. I have sent a copy of
this to him as well.

i don't think i have ever seen a sailboat without a rudder, i think this
must fall into the "appropriate use of a tool" catagory, you haven't sinned,
you've been blessed with a gift, to see a use for an otherwise... ;-p

In the book "Alone in the Carribbean" (1917) the sailing canoe Yakaboo did
not have a rudder the centerboard was on sheaves and could be slid forward
or backwards and was steered with the sails only

Also sailboards don't have rudders.

nope, you are very correct, see what happens when you are not the master,
but the student ;-) i meant "direction correction devices" similar to
rudder/skeg/fin/leeboards, etc!!

I once sailed a small sailboat for a few minutes with its designer (VCP
founder Frank Goodman at the 1984 Maine Sea Kayak symposium). If I remember
correctly you changed the trim to control it. It worked.

Not sure if this is going to help but here's a URL on kayak sailing
(not much about rudders but maybe you can get more info by contacting the
author... his contact information can be found on the site)
