"Hey", all. Under the subject of "Bombers", John suggested the possibility of a rendezvous at Tybee on the Georgia coast. I volunteered to write this e-mail to see if there was any widespread interest. Tybee is in North Georgia, just a rocks throw from the border of South Carolina. There are the open waters of the Atlantic, more protected waters in the Bays/Sounds, very protected waters of creeks through the marshes, and some inland waters not far away featuring Bald Cypress trees, Spanish moss and so forth. Water for all occasions, really. There are plenty of dolphin in the area, as well as a huge variety of birds and so forth. Tybee Island itself is a beach resort, so there are lots of hotels (but the paddling destinations can be very isolated and private, if that's the desire), Sea Kayak Georgia on Tybee has a bunk house or private room accommodations, and there is one campground featuring RVs all the way down to tents. There is also a state park for camping just a short drive south, but off of the actual island of Tybee. There are also some great restaurants nearby, from what I gather (I haven't actually been there... yet). Bottom line... sounds like a nice place to attempt a P'Wiser rendezvous. The idea came up literally minutes ago, so there are no specifics as of yet, other than the idea of getting together at Tybee in the Spring. My personal preference would be mid April, but that's just because I was kicking around that general time frame for a solo trip to Tybee anyway. I tried to go last year in March, but at the last minute had to cancel. If another date works better for the majority, I'll adjust. There are a number of P'Wisers very close to Tybee who would "probably" be interested. They haven't said so themselves, but I'm going out on a limb and saying that if we planned it, I'd bet that they'd show up. Also, Sea Kayak Georgia is there, and is active in the sport more so than just selling gear. They host BCU events and so forth, conduct lots or tours, etc. So, if we needed some on-site professional assistance of some sort (not sure for what, but you never know), I'd also bet they they'd be interested in helping out if they knew that a group of paddlers were descending on their own back yard. If I were in the business, I know I'd be interested in doing something to try to connect with them. If nothing else, it may get us in their shop to pick up some gear... Oh, RENTALS for those who may want to fly in!!! I knew there was a reason to mention them :-) Anyway, the point of this e-mail is to get a feel for potential interest. So, if you're interested in at least seeing how this develops, respond accordingly, and we'll see what the level of interest is. State the number of people in your party (spouses, SO, friends, kids, etc) and the month that works best for you if it's not April. Otherwise, we'll assume April is fine.
