G'Day,

Please include me in the discussion - I've just looked at the web page -
those inflatable sitons look superb - does anyone know how much they cost,
set up and pull down times? (in addition to pumping times), can the pump be
carried in the kayak case? Is the jetstream as tippy as a regular racing ski
or does the sponson add stability?

All the best, PeterO

G'Day Sandy,

No I'm dreamin! Really like the idea of being able to walk to the river at
the bottom of my street, carrying a small bag or two, setting up the boat
and paddling down the river through the harbour and out to sea. With no
petrol usage! Trying to emulate Ralph Diaz ideal of minimal use of
hydrocarbon fuels, which I think is why he uses public transport. At the
moment am also looking at the Kahuna to achieve this.

At the moment have two boats Klepper and Pittarak - another boat on the
dream list is a small plastic one for learning how to surf without spending
lots of time with gelcoat to repair the damage! Mind at least one can repair
fiberglass boats - A friend wound up on some oyster covered rocks in a
plastic boat (linear polymer) and now has some sad scratches he wants to
repair - does anyone know how to remove scratches from a linear polymer
plastic boat?

All the best, PeterO

While I would never presume to try to talk someone out of buying a new
boat--"Hey, let's us go spend your money!"--it seems to me that you can
achieve the goal you mention above with a simple boat cart. Get one that
takes down small enough to fit in your hatch.

My wife gave me a Primus Deluge cart for Christmas last year and it has
proven very useful. Easy enough to build your own, too. Well, prehaps not
quite easy enough, I've got plans around to build one and naver did so. :)

Enjoy your new boat.

I agree. I carried my kayak a few time the hundred meters or so I used
to live from the beach and then bought a cart. I could set everything
up on the front lawn, toss a couple of small bags (lunch, emerg gear) in
the hatches and tow it down the road. Much easier than carrying.

Just think, with the money you save, you could buy a new boat!!

Mike

I built my own cart for the cost of nothing, picked up the wheels from the
tip shop for no cost, and had some scraps of timber and aluminium laying
around in the shed. Having it fit into the hatch was not a planning
prerequisite because I was just going to stash it in the bush at the boat
ramp, but as luck has it, it did fit in the rear hatch and now it goes were
ever the kayak goes. A marvellous piece of engineering :-)

Cheers
Wilky
Ps, do we have any Kiwi's on the list that have paddled an Ocean Kayaks SOT
double?

Yes, us. As well as owning a Southern Light double - ocean cockpits, four
bulkheads and all - we also have an Ocean Kayak Cabo, and as well have
paddled a Malibu Two on a couple of occasions.
